The Different Types of Halogen Light Bulbs

There are dozens of different light bulbs that are made by hundreds of manufacturers. One of these is known as the halogen light bulb. In order to understand how it is used you must first understand how it works and why they are great for people to use.

A halogen light bulb is incandescent where a tungsten filament is tightly sealed into a small and compact transparent envelope. This envelope is filled with a small amount of halogen (bromine and iodine) and inert gas. The life of the bulb is increased through the halogen cycle and will prevent it from getting dark when it redeposits tungsten in the inside of the bulb and than back onto the filament.

Manufacturers allow the light bulb to operate its filament with higher temperatures than that are used for the standard and more common gas filled lamp. It will also give off light that is a higher color temperature than incandescent lamps that are not halogen. Because of this they are designed to last twice as long and can be used on optical system because of their small size.

Common Types Of Halogen Light Bulbs

Halogen floods are some of the most commonly used halogen light bulbs because they have the ability to be used anytime and anywhere. Many homeowners will use them for accent lighting inside of their homes or for normal lighting in their office or bedroom. They may also be used outside on the porch to allow more light when needed. They come available in 120 and 130 volt and both kinds have been made with the ability to dim when needed.

Colored halogen light bulbs are definitely one of the more unique types. They are available in colors of blue, amber, pink, green, yellow, and red. Kids especially love to use these in their rooms to add life and color.

JDD type light bulbs are built in a tubular shape and come equipped with a screw base that is usually medium sized. They are covered with a glass envelope over the bulb and are available in 12 to 130 volts.

MR type light bulbs are small reflectors that are 1.38' in diameter. They are built with a 2 pin base. They have a low voltage in units.

Solux is a type of halogen light bulb that has been patented and built to provide full spectrum light bulbs that help to replicate the daylight spectrum. These bulbs can be used in a number of ways. They are most commonly used in museums, photography, machine vision, light therapy, and automotive paint finishing.
